Supportive Services
“...It doesn’t feel bad to get older here. All my life I’ve taken care of others...it just feels like my turn here.”
At Lutheran Towers, our goal is to empower residents in maintaining the highest quality of life to successfully age in place. Our wellness philosophy involves encouraging residents to actively engage in programs that promote their independence. We provide information and resources to encourage well-being, and we partner with families and community-based services to help meet individual needs.
Health and Wellness Programs
Health and Recreational Forum is our annual event bringing a collection of community-based organizations to Lutheran Towers to provide our residents with access to helpful resources, health and wellness information, and links to recreational and leisure activities as we empower our older adults to remain independent and physically active.
Diabetes Focus Group meets monthly for programs and discussion on various topics relating to the successful management of diabetes. This group has also sponsored programs for the entire community that focus on Nutrition and Healthy Eating.
Food for Thought is a monthly educational program that has recently included general information about Men’s Health and information to raise Breast Cancer Awareness.
Balance Diagnostics and Falls Prevention Program presents information about a screening and testing process to identify people who may be at risk of falling. Analysis of an individual’s balance will allow the audiologist to determine the appropriate intervention.
Practitioners
Podiatrist comes once a month for individual resident appointments.
Optometrist schedules comprehensive eye exams at Lutheran Towers on a quarterly basis. Residents may purchase glasses, using the prescription provided.
Blood Pressure Checks are conducted twice monthly to assist residents in monitoring their blood pressure.
Community-Based Services
Occasionally, residents may need help with light housekeeping, managing their nutrition or medications, or short-term in-home care because of a recent hospitalization. The Service Coordinators help residents and their families connect with appropriate community-based resources: home health care, including behavioral health; physical and occupational therapy; transportation, light housekeeping, etc.
“If I hadn’t had the assistance of the Service Coordinators when I was diagnosed with breast cancer, I don’t know how I could have managed. Having someone to talk to and help me arrange needed help, truly saw me through this diagnosis.”
As you can see, your health and well being are foremost in our minds. We recognize the importance of linking supportive services with affordable housing.
