Even during the COVID-19 pandemic, there are lots of great ways that you can help your neighbors in need -- and still follow social distancing guidelines. Here are a few suggestions:
Donate to Lutheran Towers’ COVID-19 Emergency Relief Fund
100% of the donations to Lutheran Towers’ COVID Relief Fund will be used to support Lutheran Towers’ free feeding programs established to address the prevalence of food insecurity within our resident population.
Set Up a Facebook Fundraiser to Benefit Lutheran Towers’ Residents
Celebrate a special occasion (a Birthday, Anniversary, or special Holiday) by inviting your friends and neighbors to help those in need! It's easy to set up and 100% of donations go to help your neighbors in need.
If you want to make it fun, you can start a friendly competition with a friend or co-worker by asking them to set up their own fundraiser. Come up with a prize for the person who helps the most family.
Distribute Care
If you are over 70-1/2 and have an IRA, you can donate to Lutheran Towers directly from your IRA -- it is called a Qualified Charitable Distribution. Unlike your regular distributions, you pay no taxes on this distribution. Check with your financial advisor for more details.
Organize a Virtual Food Drive
During the COVID-19 crisis, Lutheran Towers’ staff has distributed more than 44,000 pounds of free food to dozens of residents in need.
Thanks to partnerships with Atlanta Area Food Bank, we've been able to purchase bulk food items at discounted prices to meet this growing need -- and protect the health and safety of our staff, donors, and clients.
But we can only do that with your help!
You can help us out by hosting a virtual food drive! Use email or social media to invite your family, friends, or colleagues to make an online donation to Lutheran Towers. Their donations will go to help families in need during the COVID-19 crisis. Remember that because of Lutheran Towers’ partnership with the Atlanta Community Food Bank a donation as small as $65 can help feed a resident in need of food for a week!
Organize a Collection Drive
Out of an abundance of caution for the health and safety our staff, volunteers, and donors, Lutheran Towers strongly encourages our community members to make a monetary contribution to our COVID-19 Emergency Relief Fund or one of the options above. Each of these provides vital support for our residents in need, while allowing everyone to maintain social distancing. However, for those who prefer to organize a collection drive, please remember to exercise the proper precautions per the CDC guidelines.
Here are a few things to remember when organizing a drive. Here are few things to keep in mind when organizing collection drives:
-
- Organize. Be sure to discuss your plans with the head of your group or organization. Decide where you will place collection bins and the time frame of your drive. TIP: Center your drive around a specific theme. For example, cereal drives are an easy way to collect nutritious food for the most important meal of the day.
-
- Publicize. Create a flyer and post it at strategic locations. Get the word out through newsletters, emails, and social media. We can supply you with materials about Lutheran Towers to distribute.
-
- Collect. Place your collection bins in designated places. Keep reminding people to bring in items (or cash donations, if applicable).
Deliver your items to Lutheran Towers. Let us know when you plan to make your delivery. TIP: Thank key volunteers who helped with the drive. Let everyone know about the success of your drive. Send us photos of your drive, and we will post to our website and Facebook to say thank you!
